Who Can Apply?
- EU/EEA/Swiss citizens living in the UK before 31 Dec 2020
- Family members of qualifying citizens
- People with retained rights (divorce, bereavement, etc.)
Types of Status
- Pre-Settled Status: Less than 5 years residence, valid for 5 years
- Settled Status: More than 5 years, grants permanent residency
Late Applications
Permitted if you have a valid reason such as:
- Medical condition
- Digital access issues
- Domestic abuse or vulnerable situation
Application Process
- 1. Apply online via GOV.UK
- 2. Use ID Check app
- 3. Submit evidence of residence
- 4. Await email decision
Moving from Pre-Settled to Settled
If you currently hold Pre-Settled Status, you must reapply for Settled Status before your Pre-Settled Status expires. To qualify, you need to show evidence of five years of continuous residence in the UK. This ensures you can continue to live, work, and access services without interruption.
